No Conveyancers? No Regrets

They found a nice park deep in the suburb that could only be described as normal. Harvey sat on one of the swings, finding comfort in its movement. He held Bucket close, both arms wrapped around his friend. In the distance, they could see the horizon deteriorating as the world of their story began to crumble. There wasn’t long left.

“I’m sorry that you didn’t get to learn about the job of professional conveyancing solicitors,” Harvey said, unable to take his eyes away from the skyline, as the blue continued to turn into dust.

“It’s okay,” Bucket said. “At least I didn’t have anything else on my bucket list.”

“The world is about to end and now’s the time you start using bucket puns?” Harvey asked.

No regrets. What about you?”

Harvey took a deep breath, the ominous destruction getting closer. He could hear it now. The buildings of this suburban neighbourhood were obliterated as the void drew closer. “I don’t think so. No regrets. These last few days have been interesting, to say the least. She’s a heck of a storyteller – have to give her that.”

“I don’t know,” Bucket said. “I thought this one was a bit flimsy. The entire premise was taken straight out of a video game. I thought the first novel about Maphira and Rylee was better.”

“Really?” said Harvey. “I don’t know anything about that one. We’ve got a few minutes left, I think. Want to give me the synopsis?”

Bucket thought about it for a moment. “Sure, why not tell a story from the creator who has doomed us to eternal darkness? Well, it all started with a kobold named Cosmo and his search for a job at a conveyancing firm. But the real story begins with a woman named Rylee, hot on the trail of a group of mechanics trying to take over the world…”
